Kindergarten Honeybees: January 21 - 24, 2025

Dear Honeybee Families,

Last week was a shorter colder week, and we enjoyed more time in our inside classroom. We finished our story about a bird looking for a home for winter. We ventured outside, bundled warmly, to the playground and enjoyed time in the sunshine. The children have been engaging in deep, group imaginative play. We also went to see the exhibit from the Southern Train Museum on Friday. This was met with a lot of joy and excitement as the class watched the model trains from several eras travel around the tracks.

Thank you to everyone who was able to attend our Curriculum Night on the new date! This winter weather has led to a lot of changed plans and we appreciate everyone's flexibility. Because of the weather, we have delayed the beginning of Golden Knights, an enrichment program for rising First Graders from all three kindergarten classes, from the beginning of last week to the beginning of this week. In our Honeybee’s class, we will also be doing a winter painting project this week. We will sprinkle salt on wet watercolor paintings to change the texture. Painting in the Waldorf way helps to stimulate a child’s brain development as the experience of colors and forms can not only enhance cognitive skills but also helps build spatial awareness. Memory building is also occurring as children remember color combinations and observe how colors interact on the page. While the end result is a lovely painting, there is much more to the experience as well!

Announcements and Reminders for Honeybee Kindergarten:

Please check that your child’s spare clothes are suited to the season, especially warm layers and extra socks. Wet winter days call for fully waterproof rain gear to ensure little ones stay dry and comfortable during outdoor explorations.

Our classroom is in need of borrowing gloves. If your child has taken gloves home, please kindly return them. Donations of extra gloves would be greatly appreciated and help keep all hands warm during our adventures.

Spring Conferences are coming soon!  Please sign up here for a time to meet to discuss your child’s school experience so far this year. Conferences are 20 minutes and will be in the indoor classroom. If there is not a sign up time that works for you, or if you need a longer time to meet, please contact me to schedule your conference for a different time.
