Hello, Second and Third Grade Families,

We stayed busy during our shortened time at school this past week. The children continued learning about nouns and began learning about verbs. They learned the difference between common and proper nouns and were introduced to pronouns. The children completed a book that labeled the different types of nouns and then learned and acted out a poem about nouns and verbs. These lessons were accompanied by the story Noah’s Ark.

The class successfully concluded the books they wrote on the snow day earlier this month. Each child spent time writing a rough draft, practicing sequencing the events in their story, and writing an opening and closing statement for their story. The class enjoyed sharing their work with their classmates on Friday.

This week, the children will continue learning about the parts of speech by learning about adjectives and adverbs through the story of Moses. To further engage the students and bring their attention to the lessons, each part of speech will be given a specific color, which helps the students associate each part with its job in the sentence. Once students understand those jobs, they are on their way to using the proper part of speech effectively and writing clearer, descriptive, and more cohesive sentences.
