Sixth & Seventh Grade: April 21-25, 2025
Hello, Middle School Families,
It was lovely to see several of you at the auction on Friday! Thank you for your attendance and support at the Hope Blooms auction! The students worked really hard on their class project and were so proud of the final product.
Each day last week, two students presented their Physics project. They all did a wonderful job presenting their experiment. It was lovely to see students bring a topic and experiment to the class that interests them personally.
Last week, the class also dove into the Mechanics portion of our Physics Block, with a brief introduction to the six simple machines. Starting with the lever, the class did several experiments with the three types of levers. Using weights and an effort scale, the class discovered that levers provide a mechanical advantage. Very quickly, they related this to math, asking if there was a standard formula that could be used to calculate mechanical advantage.
The mechanics portion of the Physics Block ties in very nicely with starting construction on the Ga-Ga ball court. Construction projects naturally use simple machines (hammer, saw, wheelbarrow, screw, inclined plane, wedge, etc.), and students are able to see first hand how simple machines help make work easier.
Finally, we spent some time working on accents for our class play. Please help your student with memorization of their lines!
