Fourth & Fifth Grade: April 21-25, 2025
Dear Fourth and Fifth Grade Families,
First and foremost, a heartfelt thank you to everyone who came out to support the school auction last week. Your presence, generosity, and community spirit made the evening a truly special one. We’re so grateful for your continued support of our class and our school.
Last week, students continued practicing for the class play. Many students have already memorized their lines—an excellent milestone that makes rehearsals more fluid and fun. The energy in the room is a blend of excitement and a few fluttering nerves as they step more fully into their roles. Each student is working hard to bring their character to life, and it's wonderful to witness their creativity and confidence blossoming.
We also enjoyed our second field trip of the year with a visit to the Atlanta Botanical Gardens. It was a beautiful, warm day for exploring! The students wandered through a variety of biomes—from the dry desert to lush tropical plantings and the peaceful Japanese garden. A big thank you to Michelle and Michaela for chaperoning and treating the class to King of Pops—a perfect refreshment on a warm spring afternoon. The trip wrapped up with some energetic playtime at the playground, just in time before we were whisked away by an afternoon thunderstorm!
In Math, students are completing their final fractions book, showing greater confidence and accuracy in their work. They are demonstrating an increase in independence and perseverance with problem-solving. In Language Arts, spelling continues to improve steadily. Please continue to encourage reading at home—books with rich, expressive language help significantly with both spelling and vocabulary development.
This week, we begin our final Main Lesson Block of the year: Ancient Egypt and Mesopotamia. In this block, students will explore the origins of early civilization along the Nile and Tigris-Euphrates rivers. We will study mythology, inventions, writing systems like cuneiform and hieroglyphs, monumental architecture (think pyramids and ziggurats!), and the daily lives of people in these early societies. This block will weave together history, geography, storytelling, art, and writing—an exciting and enriching culmination to our year together.
Thank you, as always, for being such a wonderful part of our classroom community. Wishing you all a peaceful and joyful week ahead!
