First Grade: April 28 - May 2, 2025

Dear First Grade Families,

Class Play season is in full swing in the Grades program! In the forest and elsewhere around campus, students can be heard rehearsing their lines, and each week, new scenery and costumes are popping up for the different class productions. Without a doubt, excitement and anticipation are filling the air. First Grade is looking forward both to sharing their show with you and to watching their elder schoolmates’ performances. On Friday, our class will have their dress rehearsal of “The Three Bears” with Kindergarten for their audience.

During XML, the classroom has been a hive of activity, with students completing different projects, such as their Buddy Readers, CVC word flowers, and costume headpieces for the class play. In these lessons, the class has practiced valuable literacy skills, including letter formation, spelling, and reading. It is clear that many students have been practicing their reading skills at home! It definitely shows and gives students greater confidence in their school lessons. In addition to the aforementioned skills, students have developed their fine motor skills and attention to detail in drawing, cutting, and pasting. Not only that, but students have been demonstrating their self-control in moving around the classroom to obtain supplies while remaining focused on their own projects. In terms of social skills, students have been observed sharing kind words about each others’ work in addition to correcting themselves without being prompted to do so if they have chosen words that are too blunt. These children are showing incredible growth!

On Friday, we celebrated Kaya's birthday with a frozen treat in our cozy classroom while the rain came lashing down outside! Happy birthday, Kaya!

Next week, the class will perform “The Three Bears,” so please go over your child’s lines at home this weekend (in chunks rather than in one sitting if you sense that your child needs a break) to help them feel extra ready! The play will take place on our platform rain or shine. Please see the email sent on May 1st about particulars for the evening, including a signup to contribute refreshments and supplies. Thank you for signing up!
