Second & Third Grade: May 12-16, 2025

Hello, Second and Third Grade Families,

Thank you, families, for attending our class play tonight. The children all worked so hard learning their characters, lines, creating set pieces and props, practicing songs, and learning how to improvise when things don’t go according to plan. Performing in front of an audience can be intimidating, and the students all stepped up to the challenge and put on a beautiful performance. We are all so proud of the wonderful show they were able to put on!

Thank you also to the parents who put together the incredible surprises for Teacher Appreciation Week. The teachers were thrilled with the wonderful spreads of food, flower bouquets, cards, and sweet gifts from the students. We all feel so loved by the students and their families who put their heart into giving us a special week.

In addition to rehearsing for the play, the students spent time last week practicing their writing skills. The children wrote instructions on how to make a peanut butter and jelly sandwich. I then followed their directions exactly as they wrote them. The children found it humorous to see how leaving out important details can lead to situations such as peanut butter spread on the bag of bread, needing to use my hand to scoop the jelly, or needing to simply put the ingredients on a table. The children then rewrote their instructions with more details to see if we could get to a properly made sandwich.

On Thursday and Friday, the children enjoyed creating Mother's Day gifts on a pottery wheel. Each child spent time shaping either a vase, bowl, or gift box with air-dry clay that they painted the next day. The children also wrote a poem together, which they spent the afternoon writing in their beautiful cursive writing. The children loved spending time creating gifts for their moms. We hope you all had a wonderful time with your families on Sunday.
