Kindergarten Turtles: May 12-16, 2025

Greetings, Turtle Families,

It is the last week of school, unbelievable! It has been a wonderful year, and we are so grateful to have spent it with your children in our beautiful forest. This sweet class, both children and parents, has been such a blessing!

Last week, we were busy getting the most out of the forest and our time together.  The children played and created all week - they beaded necklaces, completed sewing projects, built forts and obstacle courses for “cats”, and played in the mud!  It rained often, and with all that moisture, the forest was alive with mushrooms, plants, and creatures.  The children enjoyed spotting animals, plants, or fungi and then using our field guides to identify what they found.  We have seen some interesting fungi growing in our classroom and reminded the children not to touch any mushrooms they see growing in the forest.  Most of all, we enjoyed a Gray Rat snake that spent the morning in our class on Tuesday. A student spotted it on the ground by the mud kitchen.  She did just what we have taught the students to do; she moved away from it and called out, “Snake, there’s a snake!” Then the whole class watched as the snake entered the brush behind the mud kitchen. It then began climbing, and for the next forty-five minutes, we watched as it made its way up vines and across tree limbs into the canopy of trees above our classroom. It was amazing, natural entertainment!

It was also a week of celebrations, as we celebrated three Turtles with summer birthdays! On Monday, we celebrated Sonia’s 6th Birthday.  Her parents visited our class to celebrate with us. On Tuesday, we celebrated Phineas’ 6th Birthday.  His parents, little sister, and baby brothers visited our class to celebrate with us. On Wednesday, we celebrated Cora’s 5th Birthday.  Her parents and big sister visited our class to celebrate with us. Happy Birthday, Sonia, Phineas, and Cora!
