Kindergarten Turtles: April 13 - 17, 2026

Greetings, Turtle Families,

The Auction is this Friday! Thank you to everyone for helping with our project! It was truly a whole-class community effort. A special thank you to Isa (Zoe’s Mom) for generously providing the clay, tools, and glazes, and for firing all of the pieces. We are also grateful to Greg (Hazel’s Dad) for donating and preparing the beautiful cedar wood used to mount our clay creations. The finished Turtle wall hanging is beautiful! We are looking forward to seeing you all at the auction. It is sure to be a fun and memorable evening.

What a lovely Spring week. With the warm temperatures, the class spent a lot of time at the creek. The students excavated and built with sand, rocks, bamboo, and sticks. Many Turtles worked together to create habitats for the “sea snails” and frogs, forming sand mounds, ponds, and flowing streams along the creek banks. Time at the creek is both calming and engaging. The sensory experience of hands in the sand, along with the sound and feel of the water running, is especially regulating for the children. We look forward to many days at the creek before the end of the school year. Please remember to check your child's backpack each evening for wet clothes and send in a new change of clothes when needed.

On Monday, we celebrated Eleanor’s Birthday. Her parents and little sister visited our class to celebrate with us. Happy Birthday, Eleanor!

Our new Spring circle has songs and verses about birds, seeds, and flowers. The class enjoys one verse (shared below) about a mama bird. When we say this verse, the students link arms with a partner and walk in circles while the bird gathers straw and feathers to build her nest. This is an advanced activity that will take practice to master.

A bird sat in the willow tree And sang a song so sweet for me She hopped and hopped so merrily, Then flew away, tra lee tra lee. I watched her bring back straw and feather, She wove it in and out together, She worked all day and did not rest, Until she built a sturdy nest. She sat upon that nest so long, And only sometimes sang a song. One day, there were four babies there, Now she sits in the willow tree, She sings her song, but not for me....

(a chorus of “for the babies” rings out when we finish this verse)

Announcements and Reminders:

Hope Blooms is this Friday, April 24 at 6:00 PM! We can’t wait to see parents and guests there (adults only, please). This is an important evening for our school and a chance to come together as a community. Join us for dinner, drinks, music, and our live paddle raise for class projects (in person only). Tickets are still available and needed to participate in bidding both in person and online.

Please send two full water bottles with your child each day. As the weather warms up, the children are drinking more water throughout the day. If bottles are coming home still full, it is likely because we have refilled them at school.
