Kindergarten Chickadees: April 20 - 24, 2026
Osiyo, Chickadee Families,
Thank you for supporting The Garden School through your loving participation in the Hope Blooms auction! Whether you attended the event, bid on items, helped with our class project, served on the auction committee, or supported in other ways, your care, dedication, and hard work are greatly appreciated.
It was a full and busy week, last week! The class participated in a play of The Arrow Chain, where they acted out different roles each day. The students drew, painted, finger-chained, sewed, and played in the forest classroom and the creek. The current drought has made the soil in the forest exceptionally dry and dusty. This different texture and consistency provided new ways for the children to experiment as they work with pots, pans, shovels, spoons, and colanders in the forest. They have been working to sift the dirt and make it as soft and fine as possible before pouring it between buckets or letting it run through their fingers. At the creek, students built a small dam with sticks and rocks. The dam worked so well that parts of the creek became deeper, and they even made a small waterfall!
This week, the class will hear The Leaving Story, a special therapeutic story that indirectly helps students process the changes of the ending school year. The Golden Knights will have a small ceremony in their final class on Wednesday, where they will wear their vests and receive a special gift from Ki Ieva and Ki Holly. On Wednesday, the Chickadee class will also have a special Golden snack of lemonade, pineapple, yellow peppers, and graham crackers. The students will then place the pineapple rinds in a large jar with sugar, water, and spices to begin the short fermentation process of making tepache, a probiotic beverage, which the class will try when it is ready.
