Second & Third Grade: April 20 - 24, 2026
Hello Second and Third Grade Families,
Thank you to everyone who attended the Hope Blooms Auction! The sale of our project directly supports our school, a result made possible by the dedication and effort each of you contributed to its success. A special thank you to Cecilia Malta for being our auction representative and to Dana Akers, James Johns, Nathan Isaksson, Katie Olschansky, Annabelle Everarts, and Erica Sharifzadeh for volunteering to cut, sand, assemble, and help build the dolls. This was truly a group effort, and the final product reflects the love that went into this project.
Last week, the class continued the rehearsals for Aesop’s Fables, which will be performed on May 5th at 5:30. The students have begun running full-length rehearsals, helping them build stamina and patience, as each scene features only a portion of the class. Behind the scenes, they are busy creating animal ears, shells, and manes for their costumes, and have also started building the set. At the students’ request, we will hold three dress rehearsals this year, one for each grade level.
Our first dress rehearsal, for the First Grade, will take place on April 30th. This will be a working performance, meaning the students will have their scripts with them, and the audience will be able to see much of what happens behind the scenes. We may also pause at times to rehearse specific elements of the show in front of a live audience. On Friday, May 1st, the class will perform for the Fourth and Fifth Grade classes in their first full rehearsal without scripts. The final rehearsal will be held on May 4th in front of the Middle School class. It is shaping up to be a wonderful show with a few fun surprises, and the children are excited to perform it for you!
Beyond the class play, the students are researching different Native American cultures in small groups in preparation for building model villages. Each group will create a report on the culture, shelters, clothing, and history of their chosen group of people. Models will be completed on May 15th, and will be available for viewing on our platform after the Grades Assembly held on the same morning.
Warm regards,
Meredith
