Fourth & Fifth Grade: April 20 - 24, 2026
Dear Fourth and Fifth Grade Families,
The Garden School hopes you enjoyed the Annual Auction Fundraiser. Thank you so much for volunteering your time and expertise toward our class project. Your continued support is greatly appreciated
The class has continued its studies in Greek mythology. After learning about the creation story and the lineage of the primary gods and goddesses, the students dove into classic Greek tales. Beginning with the origin story of Pandora’s box, the class explored how gods with opposing views and values contributed to the human world as we know it today. The themes of this story led to a discussion in which students imagined how they would design the world.
Next, an exploration of the world of mythological creatures that appear in Greek myths followed. The students designed habitats for their favorite supernatural creatures. From there, the class moved into the first of many stories involving mythical beings, beginning with Theseus and the Minotaur. The students participated in a group read-aloud and used their summarization skills to retell the story in writing.
Our class, along with the Sixth Grade students from the Middle School, has been training for their final push before the Southeastern Waldorf Pentathlon on April 30. Much of the week was focused on relay racing, fine-tuning technique in events such as the long jump and throws, and preparing for the Pentathlon assembly, which will take place on the evening before the Games. The students are looking forward to this upcoming experience as a group. The Waldorf Pentathlon serves as a rite of passage as children begin transitioning into their adolescent years. It is our hope that this experience will leave a lasting impression while also building connections with peers from other Waldorf schools across the Southeastern United States.
