Middle School: April 20 - 24, 2026

Hello, Middle School Families,

It was so great to see everyone at the Hope Blooms auction on Friday! What a fun event! The Middle School auction project was truly a collaborative effort for all of the class. It was a lesson on groupwork as well as artistic work. The students experienced that what is initially envisioned doesn’t always quite come out as you thought. While that can be frustrating, especially when you’re creating a collaborative project, the students learned that through reassessment, trying different things, making mistakes, and pivoting when needed, together they can create something beautiful. The class was very proud of the final art piece. Wonderful job, Middle School!

As background, the inspiration for our class project was MLK’s quote: "Darkness cannot drive out darkness; only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate; only love can do that." How perfect that the Civil Rights Movement is where our Main Lesson brought us this week! Through the biography of local Civil Rights activist John Lewis, the class studied the five principles of non-violent resistance, as well as examined various times this has been used throughout the world and throughout history to bring about awareness and change.

Finally, the students have continued to work on memorizing their lines for the play, with a particular focus on voice. We had a lot of fun running lines in various accents and seeing how that affected how a character was played.
