First Grade: April 27 - May 1, 2026
Dear First Grade Families,
The week of the class play is here at last! Students are very excited to present The Town Musicians of Bremen to all of you. Tomorrow, they will hold their dress rehearsal with Kindergarten for their audience. This experience will give our young actors the opportunity to practice getting into costume efficiently before performing in front of an audience in capes, ear headbands, and tails. On Thursday, the class will share the fruits of their hard-earned labor with you in full costume with the forest as their backdrop, after which we will celebrate with a cast party.
In academics, students have been solving word problems based on the action of the play in their Main Lesson books. Now that they have been drawing with their block crayons all year, they are more confident in tackling challenging forms such as the characters of the play. The donkeys, dogs, cats, and roosters that emerged on students’ pages are so charming and imbued with life. There is an artist in each child here!
Next week, the class will review their Main Lesson blocks and books from this school year. With great satisfaction, students will pore over a visual representation of their progress in First Grade. Now more comfortable with speaking in front of their peers, students will have the chance to share their favorite parts of the year and what they learned. Sometimes, the answers to these questions are surprising! After asking all year long when they can take their books home, the answer will finally be “Yes!”
