Second & Third Grade: February 24 - 28, 2025
Hello, Second and Third Grade Families,
Thank you to everyone who was able to join in our planning meeting for the auction project. For those of you who were unable to attend, we are creating a calendar, and each child is creating a gnome to represent the month of their choice. I look forward to working with all of you to create an amazing project together!
Last week the children returned from the break ready to continue the study of measurement. After a review of length, volume, and weight, the students were excited the weather turned sunny and warm and they were finally able to use their sundials to measure time. The children also each took turns becoming a human sundial as they stood in the sunlight casting shadows themselves. Each student took a turn marking the time with stones as the day progressed. On Wednesday, the class continued their study of length by creating a blueprint of a house of their own design. The children used graph paper to design their homes, then measured how many feet each room was using the grid as a guide. On Thursday and Friday, the Second and Third Graders learned how to measure temperature using a thermometer. On Friday, they created a simple thermometer as a class and took turns marking the temperature as the day progressed. The class also discussed other things we can measure, such as sound and speed.
Next week, we will conclude our math block with a weeklong study of money.
