Fourth & Fifth Grade: February 24 - 28, 2025
Dear Fourth and Fifth Grade Families,
Last week, our class completed the first part of our Ancient Cultures block, beginning our journey with Ancient Persia and India. This past week, students explored Hinduism through an introduction to its rich mythology and deities. They beautifully illustrated and summarized lessons on Brahma, Shiva, Vishnu, Saraswati, Ganesha, and Lakshmi in their Main Lesson books.
Students also learned about Siddhartha, his path to becoming the Buddha, and the foundational teachings of Buddhism, including discussions on the Eightfold Path. They continued with the Ramayana, listening to the adventures of Rama and Sita, followed by the Mahabharata and the epic of Manu and the Great Flood. It was wonderful to see them make insightful connections between the cultures we have studied this year and even those from previous years!
This week, a new block begins: Research & Animal Reports. Students will learn what research is, why it is important, and how to conduct their own research. Each student will select an animal to study, write a research report, and create a diorama. Please support your child at home by helping them visit the local library and explore books for their report.
Meanwhile, in math, we continue our work with fractions, and students are steadily gaining confidence with each lesson.
This Friday, we are excited to enjoy a homemade Indian feast prepared by Gayathri, Pynthalir’s mom! We are so grateful for this generous offering and look forward to a delicious meal together.
