Joyful Beginnings Bluebirds: March 3 - 7, 2025
Dear Joyful Beginnings Bluebirds Families,
As March arrived, the weather began to warm up, and thick layers were no longer always required for adventures outside. The children felt a sense of lightness and increased freedom of movement. More group activities such as running a race, engaging in imaginative role play, and climbing the dome were seen in the outdoor classroom. Socialization becomes a significant aspect of children's learning as they reach the age of four. While interacting with classmates, students gradually develop more abilities such as problem-solving, sharing, conflict resolution, communication, and collaboration.
This month, our story themes will also revolve around social skills. Our current story is called “Knock, Knock.” A little bear that lived in the forest wanted to find a friend. Every evening, he would go for a walk through the woods, searching for a friend. He noticed lights in the distance and found a house. There were children playing and a mother cooking inside. Little Bear hoped to become friends with them. He approached the house without knocking, bursting open the door, and scaring the children away. The mother reminded the little bear to knock first and asked him to leave with her firm voice. After a couple of trips to this house, the little bear remembered to knock on the door and was invited in for a birthday party. From that day on, he became friends with this family and never forgot to knock. Through our Waldorf-inspired curriculum, therapeutic stories are commonly told to help guide students as they navigate the developmental challenges of their ages. This story emphasizes the value of properly asking before entering someone's play. We do not tell the students the moral of the stories told as we trust them to glean from each story what they need to learn.
We are staying busy with crafts. Last week, we started painting spring pictures. This week, the children will thread yarn and beads together to make spring garlands. On Friday, we will celebrate Eli's birthday and look forward to spending the day with him and his family.
