First Grade: May 11-15, 2026
Dear First Grade Families,
This year has just flown right by! What a difference nine and a half months make. Your children have grown taller and stronger, lost and gained teeth aplenty, and made great strides in their learning journey. Last Friday, they put on their last performance as First Graders at our end-of-year assembly, and how they shone! Thank you for making the effort to come and share the experience. The class also celebrated the last of the seventh birthdays along with my birthday! Thank you for sending in treats, cards, and flowers. It was all the more meaningful celebrating with my little class family.
This week, the class was wowed by the Middle School play; those students look like grownups to the youngest grade at school! They are such a warm and friendly bunch, truly courteous next-door neighbors to our indoor classroom. Field Day activities today were thoroughly relished by our active class along with their older peers from the Second/Third Grade class. Following varied dry and wet activities cooked up by our clever Ki Meredith, students enjoyed popsicles and the grand finale of the day, a team bark boat building/sailing and the last Creekcess of the year!
Although this final week of school is abbreviated, it is not the slightest bit short of feelings and action. This is a season of polarity: reflection and anticipation; tiredness and exuberance; and togetherness and goodbyes. It is all so bittersweet! These First Graders have come such a long way. From those early days of adapting to the transitions of each day, attending specialty classes, and getting to grips with using block crayons, students have learned so much this year. Both in lessons and at play, the class has grown in maturity, demonstrating their regard for one another and for their teachers. None of this would have been possible without your support. Huge thanks are due to Phoebe, our well-organized and conscientious class rep, who asked great questions, communicated clearly and regularly, and gave me total confidence that all would go smoothly. Parents, thank you from the bottom of my heart for your communication, understanding, outfitting, feeding, and nurturing all year long. I cannot wait to see what these children achieve and how their personalities develop as they move up to Second Grade and beyond. After all the hard work your sweet, one-of-a-kind children have put in this year, they deserve a fun, refreshing break. I hope you all have a wonderful summer!
