Second & Third Grade: May 11-15, 2026

Hello Second and Third Grade Families,

Tomorrow is the final day of the school year, and it is both exciting and bittersweet to watch these amazing children who have grown so much over the past year continue on to the third and fourth grade. What an incredible year it has been.

We have shared so many meaningful experiences together. Second Graders stepping into their very first field trip to the Puppetry Museum, and Third Graders rising to the challenge of Day of Courage. Countless creek visits and outdoor adventures, creating fairy houses for the Kingdom of Halloween, gathering around campfires to sing silly songs, performing Aesop’s Fables in the spring, completing Native American Village projects, baking together in the classroom, and creating games as a class.

Beyond these moments, there has been the everyday joy of watching the students care for the farm, grow in confidence in reading, writing, and math, and build friendships that deepened throughout the year. It has truly been a wonderful way to spend the year.

In our final week of school, the class  enjoyed a stuffed animal day and picnic, created a special page in their final Main Lesson Book to close out the year, and today were fully immersed in the joy and energy of Field Day. Tomorrow morning, we will take time to quietly reflect on all that this year has held and the many years we have shared together. We will then enjoy games, a special snack, time in the forest and on the farm, and a gentle farewell with friends as we bring this beautiful year to a close.

Thank you to the parents who have made this year so meaningful. A special thank you to Dana Akers for serving as our class representative. She was always available and often helped turn my last minute ideas into reality. And thank you to everyone who volunteered and supported  the class in so many ways. Most of all, thank you for entrusting me with your children. It is rare and deeply meaningful to be part of such a warm and generous community.

As we say goodbye, I am reminded of these words from J. R. R. Tolkien:

“The Road goes ever on and on Down from the door where it began. Now far ahead the Road has gone, And I must follow, if I can, Pursuing it with eager feet, Until it joins some larger way Where many paths and errands meet. And whither then? I cannot say.”
