Fourth & Fifth Grade: May 11-15, 2026
Dear Fourth and Fifth Grade Families,
Thank you so much for attending the Grades Spring Assembly! We hope you enjoyed each and every showcase, where the classes highlighted moments of their respective Main Lesson studies and supplementary topics. Your continued support for the students and the Garden School community as a whole is greatly appreciated.
The final full week of school was spent wrapping up our final tales from Greek Mythology, where we talked and reviewed some of the stories of some of the greatest demigod heroes such as Heracles, Perseus, and Theseus. The students did an ultimate review of the Main Lesson topic in a game show style manner and painted their Main Lesson portfolio envelopes.
We also worked on our final preparations for the Spring Assembly, which highlighted topics that were previously covered like Geometry and West African Mythology. The students enjoyed revisiting some of their favorite activities from these topics such as the Jacob’s Ladder and other geometric string creations they learned to make. They also enjoyed relearning the step dance routine, a style that originated from various West African cultures that continued throughout diasporic communities in North and South America.
As we enter the final days of the school year, the class reflected on the year we’ve had from August to May, and participated in some fun in the sun activities such as Field Day. It has been a joy watching this small but mighty group of students grow as individuals and through their academic studies, while also forming a family-like atmosphere within the classroom. When a child feels seen and loved at school, it greatly enhances their educational experience.
The Fourth and Fifth Grade students had the opportunity to experience many firsts together, whether rising to new academic expectations in the classroom, taking on new physical challenges through play, games, and organized sports, metaphorically journeying through diverse geographic landscapes, ancient civilizations, and mythologies of the ancient world, or stepping into the unknown by embarking on a three-day trip away from parents while living and learning alongside peers from different Waldorf schools throughout the Southeastern United States. This school year has truly been a grand adventure filled with growth both inside and outside the classroom.
To those who are returning next year, I look forward to seeing you in the fall and hearing about your summertime adventures. To those beginning a new journey, I wish you nothing but the best. Congratulations to those who will begin their Middle School chapters this fall! I believe you are all well-equipped for the experiences ahead. Finally, the energy and eagerness of these students to learn and share fun facts that they have found on their own has been a gift. Thank you, parents, for letting me be their educational guide! Thank you to Annabelle for taking on the role as the classroom representative for this school year and serving as the glue in creating a tight-knit community for the families in our class. Your work helping with communication and coordinating events for the class has not gone unnoticed.
Have a wonderful summer, everyone!
