Joyful Beginnings Hummingbirds: May 18-22, 2026

Dear Joyful Beginnings Hummingbirds Families,

Our last few days at school were filled with glittery mud cakes and icy cold homemade sorbet. The children were mesmerized by their muddy creations as they layered popsicle sticks, birthday candles, flower petals, and glitter galore. And as is Hummingbird class tradition, we marked each child’s height on our “very official” measuring stick and took a moment to celebrate not only their growth in stature, but also in bravery, kindness, and confidence.

We hope your summer is off to a slow, sweet start. As your family settles into the rhythm of this season, I’d like to offer a loving reminder/encouragement that boredom is a gift. We have seen firsthand the magic your children are capable of creating all on their own when given the space, time, and access to nature and open-ended materials. One of my favorite ways to refresh a play space is to thrift a basket and gather old sheets and fabrics, cutting them into varying lengths and shapes. Add a bit of yarn, and watch the magic unfold.

I spent the few days following the last day of school reading through all of your heartfelt cards and appreciating your generous and thoughtful gifts. I am truly humbled by the way this parent community supported and showed up for both Ki Angela and me throughout the year. Many of you know the weight this year held in my personal life, and every chance you could, you met me with tenderness, care, and encouragement.

Thank you for trusting me, as a new teacher, with your most precious gifts. I will always remember your children as the ones who grew with me and helped shape me as a teacher. As students and teachers continue on their paths, it is my hope that these Hummingbird years, whether one or two, will be remembered for the light and tenderness that defined them.

For those remaining in the Joyful Beginnings program, I truly could not feel more confident passing the torch to the loving care of Ki Isa. The school is incredibly lucky to welcome her warm and nurturing presence to our campus.

Please stay in touch, and again, thank you from the bottom of my heart.

With love and gratitude,

Ki Alycia
