Happy Summer!

Thank you all for the beautiful and amazing class gifts. The bird feeder/wind chime/sun catcher is the most incredible thing I could imagine, and I will cherish the hand-drawn chickadees with the students’ names forever. The thought and work that went into that project, the thoughtful note with quotes from the students, and all of the other pieces have touched my heart. The individual cards, gifts, and tokens of appreciation were also so thoughtful and hold a special place in my heart. I have loved every moment with your children and with you. This is a special community, and I am so fortunate to have been a part of your lives, whether your child was a Chickadee for one year or three.

The Chickadee class spent the final three days of the school year enjoying each other’s company and several special activities. On Monday, the students created covers for their drawing books, had extra playtime in the outdoor classroom, ate watermelon, and listened to the book, The Book With No Pictures. Tuesday was Field Day, with games, popsicles, and creek play. Students played parachute games, beanbag toss, water relay, egg-and-spoon race, and blew bubbles. On Wednesday, the class listened to the book, Harold and the Purple Crayon, enjoyed homemade strawberry lemonade, and played at the creek. The school year ended with a fantastic pizza party, with delicious pizza made by Ki Heidi and wonderful community conversation and connection.

Several students asked for the strawberry lemonade recipe to be shared:

Heat 1c sugar, 2c water, and 1-1 ½ c diced strawberries in a pot until the sugar melts, to make a simple syrup. Squeeze 6 medium-to-large lemons and add to the cooled syrup mixture. Add 4 cups of cold water, and stir to combine.
