Second and Third Grade: November 18-22, 2024

Hello, Second and Third Grade Families,

Thank you for attending the Thanksgiving Luncheon before the break. It was joyous watching the children singing together and sharing a meal with friends and family. The children have returned eager to share stories from time spent over the break. We hope you all enjoyed the time away resting, eating, and spending time with those who bring you peace.

Before the break, the children heard the story The Cunning Wolf, which led to a lesson on double consonants. The children discovered that we often double consonants before adding “-ed” or “-ing” to the end of a one-syllable word. They also discovered several “rule breaker” words, such as those with a long vowel sound or words where the primary stress is on the final syllable, such as “visit,” which do not double their consonants. In and around their main lessons,  the students also discovered a fallen branch of an Empress tree that had cracked in half. Their sense of wonder and curiosity was strongly engaged as the children worked hollowing the two halves and began to create a marble run for our outdoor classroom. The class is eager to continue their project now that they have returned.

This week begins an exciting season of birthdays, winter celebrations, festivals, and activities. Today, Snow turns eight, and we will celebrate his birthday on Friday. Happy Birthday to Snow!

As the weather turns cooler, we will be spending some mornings indoors during main lesson time. Morning circle will primarily remain outdoors. On mornings when the temperature is below 40, we will do our morning circle indoors. Our schedule has the circle beginning at 8:40 a.m.; please check the temperature and continue to send your child with appropriate layers.
