Kindergarten Chickadees: December 2-6, 2024
Osiyo, Chickadee Families,
Thank you for coming to watch our beautiful and reverent Winter Spiral walk today. It was a magical morning for the children and adults alike.
Winter weather arrived right on time for our story about King Winter feeding the animals and our circle song about chopping wood to keep warm! The students quickly learned the wood-cutting song and movements, and it has inspired active, imaginative play throughout the day. Students have been pretending to use sticks to saw and chop trees and make fires to roast fish (leaves) they caught with spears made from long sticks. This active play provides the students with the benefits of working as a team and problem-solving opportunities. It is fun, too, and has the practical benefit of keeping the children warm in the chilly air.
Bringing together both artistic experience and the wonder of nature, students decorated bags with crayons and paint last Monday. On Wednesday, the children used these bags and provided picture lists to gather items in a nature scavenger hunt! On our walk to the hunt, the class saw that the wetlands had frozen to solid ice and went on the boardwalk for a closer look. While they were there, the students found another surprise left by nature- coyote scat! This week, the children also spotted a barred owl in a tree near the classroom and several winter birds at the suet feeder. The forest provided many amazing gifts recently!
Next week is already the last week of the semester! The Chickadees have special activities and snacks planned for each day. If you do not want your child to have one of the snacks, please let me know by this Friday, 12/13.
Throughout the week, we invite families to be guest readers during story time (around 10:15 am). If you are interested in bringing a winter or holiday-themed picture book to read to the class, please sign up here. We also have books on hand you can choose from. Please be sure the stories are not media-related, per school policy. Additional events next week are as follows:
