Second and Third Grade: December 9-13, 2024

Hello, Second and Third Grade Families,

Thank you to everyone who was able to join in baking shortbread cookies this weekend. It is always a joy to come together as a community for the children. The cookies were lovely, and the children did a wonderful job delivering them to the classes on Monday.

On Santa Lucia Day, another festival of light, the children enjoyed sharing the song to Santa Lucia with the Grades classes. Following tradition, Olivia, Stella’s older sister, who is the oldest of the Seventh Grade girls, took up the part of Santa Lucia. She did a wonderful job leading the younger students. The children looked festive in the leafy crowns they created in class last week. We are all proud of the effort and care our Second and Third Graders put into this celebration.

Last week, the students also spent time practicing their multiplication tables. The class discussed the patterns they have noticed in the multiplication tables, such as the sevens and the threes making a similar pattern on our multiplication circles. They all also enjoyed revisiting the five times table and noticing that the multiplication circle goes back and forth between zero and five repeatedly. One child remarked that the five pattern looks like “a Christmas ornament.”

This week, we will continue our winter festivities on Thursday with our class celebration. Children are invited to wear their favorite pajamas and bring a stuffed animal and a picture book to share. We will serve hot chocolate and our class will have a pancake breakfast. It should be a fun day. On Friday we will conclude our winter semester with our Grades assembly. The assembly begins at 11:15 a.m., and with early dismissal from 12:15 - 12:30 p.m. The children are excited to share some of their favorite circle activities with you from the fall semester.
