Second & Third Grade: March 24-28, 2025

Hello, Second and Third Grade Families,

Last week, we concluded our Fiber Block. The children worked hard on several projects, from weaving to creating scenes from cotton to creating books about each of the fibers. The children learned about leather and fur, and they talked about the difference between natural and synthetic materials. They discussed the pros and cons of each type of material and the environments in which they would use different materials.

The block ended with our first field trip to AB Farm. There, the children experienced a shearing demonstration of Angora goats. The children were able to sort, wash, and dye the wool. The children learned so much from this hands-on experience. Thank you to the chaperones who were able to help make this trip possible.

This week, the children are beginning their Shelters Block. This block will explore the human need to rely upon and consider the environment around them when building housing. The children will learn about shelters, food, and clothes from around the world through a hands-on approach. At the end of this week, each child will choose a shelter to replicate in model form. They will then spend the remaining two weeks building their model and writing a report on their shelter. We will have class reports on April 25. Parents are welcome to join for presentations.

Don’t forget: This Friday is Grandfriends Day and a half day. We hope many of you will join us in the sanctuary at 11 a.m. for a Grades presentation followed by light refreshments on the playground. After that, we will have a week off for Spring Break.
