Hello, Second and Third Grade Families,

I hope you enjoyed your Spring Break! The children have been excited to share all of the exciting things they did and places they visited while they were away. I hope you all had time to relax as well! We had a lovely time on Grandfriends’ Day. The children enjoyed performing their favorite dance, Alabama Gal, and reciting some of their favorite poems. Thank you to everyone who was able to attend. It’s always wonderful to see the beautiful community that this school has created come together.

Before the break, we began our Shelters Block. The children spent each day learning about several different shelters, such as the tipi, wigwam, longhouse, adobe homes, earth lodge, yurt, a variety of cave dwellings, and igloo. This was in preparation for “Choice Day,” where each child selects the shelter they will focus on for their shelters project. In this project, each child will construct a model of their shelter and write a report on it. This will be done during class time. We will hold presentations at the school on April 30.

As the weather should be consistently warm, our class will be moving outside for the Main Lesson for the remainder of the year. Exceptions will be made on stormy days, days with wind advisories, or in exceptionally warm weather. We will remain outside on rainy and muddy days. Please send your child in with extra clothing, bug spray, and rain gear on wet days. Layers are still important and necessary. Creekcess on Fridays is back in session, so hard-soled, closed-toe water shoes will be needed as well. Many students have begun bringing only one water bottle during our time inside. Please return to sending two water bottles each day.
