Kindergarten Chickadees: April 14 - 18, 2025

Thank you to those who visited the class and helped the students complete the Chickadee auction project last week. It looks incredible, and we can not wait to unveil it for auction on Friday!

The return from spring break has brought a new circle and story. These few weeks are all about the magic of spring. In the circle, students move like different animals who sleep during the winter before awakening with excitement after April raindrops fall on their noses. The children explore the sounds and movements of several types of birds and other animals they see daily in the forest. In the current story, students hear about a frozen bird that is turned into a magical bunny thanks to a little girl's love. This week, the children are experiencing the story as a puppet show, and next week they will act it out in a play! The students have grown to love the weeks they get to put on plays, especially when costumes are involved.

This week, students are planting spring flowers, kale, lettuce, and bean seeds. The planters will be kept in a nearby sunny spot where children can check on them daily and ensure they are watered, weeded, and have everything they need to grow. Caring for plants and pets is an excellent chore for young children, allowing them to demonstrate both responsibility and care for the world around them. When children are responsible for helping out in developmentally appropriate ways at school and home, they feel closer to their family and community and also experience a sense of accomplishment, giving them confidence that helps them build both social-emotional and academic skills.
