Kindergarten Turtles: March 16 - 20, 2026

Greetings, Turtle Families,

Monday was a cold and windy day. While the Turtles couldn’t play in the forest, we still spent time outside. Class was held in the field near the farm, where the children ran and played happily for a few hours. It is wonderful to see how easily they create their own fun in a wide, open space. In these moments, rich imaginations and strong friendships take over, and the students easily fill their time with joyful play without a mention of boredom. Unstructured play offers many benefits for children, and having free play time at home, even when playing by themselves, is equally valuable.

St. Patrick’s Day was Tuesday, and that morning the students painted with yellow and blue. The children enjoyed mixing their paints to create many shades of green. Also, our story was about a tricky and clever leprechaun named Paddy O’Connor. As you may have heard, he paid a visit to our forest class, spilled his gold, and quickly ran off! The children had lots of fun finding the gold and then hiding it again.

The Turtles were also fortunate to have a special visit this week from Ki Stephanie, who played a couple of Irish songs on her Cello. We had just finished our puppet show, and the songs complemented it beautifully. During snack and the performance, the children sat attentively, listening with great interest, and especially loved the Irish jig. This was a special experience to enjoy such an intimate concert in our classroom. You never know what might spark a hint of passion or inspiration in a child. Watching the adults around them engage in meaningful activities and then imagining and creating similar tasks in their play is an important element of childhood.

Announcements and Reminders:

Grandfriends Day is coming soon! Wednesday, April 1st, you, grandparents, and other special grownups in your child’s life are welcome to join us in our forest classroom for light refreshments and time to enjoy community and watch your children at play! You are also welcome and encouraged to attend the Grade performance at 10:30 am. Please remember to e-mail your visiting guest information by Friday, March 27th.

Spring is here! While the mornings have still been quite chilly, many afternoons are sunny and warm, and the children are enjoying the changing weather. Several have begun asking, “When can we go to the creek?” Creek days are quickly approaching. Please take a moment to check your child’s creek shoes and replace them if they have outgrown these. You are welcome to send them in as soon as you have them, so we’ll be ready when the weather is warm enough to begin our visits to the creek.

  • April 6-10: Spring Break (No School)

Ki Kim
