Fourth & Fifth Grade: March 16 - 20, 2026
Dear Fourth and Fifth Grade Families,
The class is continuing their studies in the Decimal Fractions block. The focus for this week was multiplying decimals by whole numbers. After overcoming the intimidation of the newness of decimals, students were able to understand how similar it is to multiplying two whole numbers, and they were able to have ample individual practice with the interactive activities that were done in class. The class practiced multiplying decimals with a tower-building relay race. The students also utilized their listening comprehension skills by solving word problems given orally. In the upcoming week, the students will continue with multiplication practice for a few more days, and then will begin the introduction to dividing decimals.
In our Language Arts class, we officially wrapped up our class reader, Tristan Strong Punches A Hole In The Sky. The students completed their book reports, which summarized the story, highlighted their favorite moments, gave a review of the novel, and illustrated a complementary drawing. Overall, the class enjoyed the book. Some students even inquired about the other two books in the series, and created their own alternative endings and fan fiction in their free time. It is an honor to see the students deeply interested in reading and working on improving their own storytelling skills in their free time!
The Fourth/Fifth graders continued working through the class play, which is based on Greek Mythology. During our initial table reads, the students had the opportunity to read each role before being officially assigned their respective roles for the performance. From there, the students will continue to work on memorizing their lines and bringing their character(s) to life in a theatrical way. In the Waldorf philosophy, the purpose of the class play is to strengthen the social cohesion of the class as students work together to put on one grand presentation. This builds confidence and gives a platform to express creativity in theatrical form. The Greek pantheon is a class favorite, so they feel excited for the challenge and are determined to work on putting together a wonderful presentation.
