Joyful Beginnings Bluebirds: March 23 - 27, 2026

Dear Joyful Beginnings Bluebirds Families,

Spring has finally arrived with warm sunshine. The students have been enjoying spending more time outdoors, and along with that comes the challenging time of pollen. Please remind your children to cough or sneeze into their elbow. We will be practicing this at school and will continue to remind them to stay well hydrated throughout the day.

Last week, the Bluebirds students focused on strengthening their fine motor and hand-eye coordination skills by hammering wooden nails into the ground. Through this activity, they also practiced sharing materials and creating patterns. One student even made a “snake” with the nails.

In the classroom, we concluded our spring journey with Jack the Rabbit. As Jack was searching for food, he found a hidden doorway in a big hollow tree. Following a bluebird’s lead, he went down into the tree and met Mother Earth. She was preparing for spring and needed help polishing the ladybugs and bees. Jack went to work right away and gladly helped all the bugs get clean. After his hard work, he led everyone back through the hollow tree, out the hidden doorway, and into a beautiful spring meadow.

Rooted in Waldorf education, storytelling nurtures deep emotional connection in early childhood. When a story is told from the heart rather than read from a page, it invites a sense of openness to which children naturally respond. When hearing “Once upon a time…,” the children are gently welcomed into a shared journey with the storyteller and the characters. As they immerse themselves in simple plots, they gradually begin to internalize qualities such as courage, empathy, and the joy of helping others. At home, stories can be created and told based on daily experiences. It is especially meaningful to go on a “Once upon a time” journey with little ones before rest time, which helps them to unwind and transition peacefully from a busy day. Gentle, repetitive themes are ideal for this age and stage. Stories with more complex themes are introduced later in kindergarten and the grades, when students are developmentally ready for them.

Last week, we also celebrated Amelia June's and Loreah’s birthdays. What a wonderful time we had with their families! Thank you for sharing yummy birthday treats with us!

This week, the children will engage in a variety of painting activities in preparation for our spring projects. On Wednesday, we invite Grandfriends and families to join us in the forest classroom at 11:00 to enjoy refreshments and time together. On Friday, we will celebrate Rihana's half birthday, and we look forward to having her and her family in our class on this special day.

We hope you have a relaxing spring break.
