Kindergarten Turtles: August 17-21, 2026

Dear Turtle Families,

The Turtle class has begun our storytelling rhythm for the year. Each story will unfold over two weeks. During the first week, we gather in a circle before snack each day to listen to the story as it is told orally. In the second week, the same story will be presented in a variety of ways. This allows the children to experience the story more deeply. Over the past two weeks, we shared a beautiful story about Mother Nature, two playful Bluebirds, and all of the colors of the rainbow. The children sat with rapt attention during the puppet show, where the story was presented using handmade puppets, silks, and props. After the puppet show, a variety of props were available on a special table on our platform, inviting the children to create their own puppet shows throughout the week.  Sometimes, students retell the story exactly as they heard it, but often they change it and make it their own, adding different characters, extra silliness, or a bit more drama. Their imaginations are wonderful! Later in the week, we explored the story using sequencing cards illustrated in watercolor. The children colored, cut out, and glued together their own set of cards to take home, offering a great opportunity to retell the story and share it with you. The Turtles also performed a play of the story. Each child accepted their role and played their part as the story was narrated. It was so special to watch each of them bring their personality and ideas to the performance.

As we move into this week, the Turtles will continue to settle into the rhythm of our days and build on the experiences and relationships that are forming in our classroom. Handwork and drawing journals will be introduced this week. Both activities give the children opportunities to slow down, work with their hands, and express their ideas creatively. Our class is becoming a beautiful, supportive community as they work and play together. Thank you for sharing your children with us and for being a part of our community.
