Joyful Beginnings Bluebirds: August 31-September 4, 2026
Dear Bluebird Families,
Thank you so much for attending our Curriculum Night. We truly enjoyed seeing everyone who was able to join us, sharing about our class and the beautiful intention behind the Waldorf way, and spending time together creating crafts.
During the first two weeks of school, a story called The Little Bluebird was introduced to the class. In the story, a little bluebird visits a garden in the springtime and hopes to join the garden. He patiently waits as he grows bigger, and finally, on a hot August day, the garden opens its doors for him to join. He spreads his wings and finds his special spot in the garden. At first, he feels nervous and scared because everything is new. With the help of Ms. Gnome and the older Bluebirds, he gradually feels at ease and begins to sing, dance, and play with his new friends.
This gentle story helps our new Bluebirds feel safe and connected in our classroom while also encouraging our returning Bluebirds to welcome and support their new friends during this big transition. In Waldorf education, storytelling is at the heart of the early childhood curriculum. In the classroom, we accompany our stories with table puppetry. Through listening to the story and watching the puppets, the children are invited to immerse themselves in the imaginative world and become part of the story.
Last week, as we prepared to welcome the seasonal festival, the Day of Courage, we introduced a new story, George and the Baby Dragon, to celebrate kindness and courage. The children continued exploring golden watercolor painting and created beautiful crowns. This week, we will begin dyeing golden capes using yellow flowers and turmeric powder. As we transition into autumn and move toward the darker months of winter, this festival invites us to nurture courage and inner strength. In Joyful Beginnings, the dragon story inspires a spirit of giving and helps awaken the children’s inner light, while the golden cape serves as a symbol of warmth, strength, and bravery.

Weekly Rhythm: In the past three weeks, we have successfully established our weekly rhythm in Bluebirds.
Monday: Chopping Day
Tuesday: Artistic Work (Watercolor painting, Journal drawing, or seasonal crafts)
Wednesday: Farm Day
Thursday: Chopping and Artistic Work
Friday: Farm Day
Conference: Our Fall Conferences will take place from October 7th to October 9th. This is a great opportunity for us to connect and discuss your child’s development and growth. Please sign up here. There will be school for the Bluebirds students on October 7th, a substitute teacher will work with Ki Olivia on this day.
Apples: Thank you for contributing apples to our weekly chopping activity! If your child is in the five-day program, you are welcome to bring apples once or twice a week.

September 18: Day of Courage (Half-Day dismissal) - Joyful Beginnings’ pick up time is from 12:00 - 12:15 pm
September 21 - 25: Fall Break
September 28: Teacher In-Service (No School)
