Kindergarten Honeybees: February 23-27, 2026

Dear Honeybee Families,

We had a deeply nourishing week back in our Honeybee Forest classroom. After time away, the children returned with fresh eyes and open hearts, immediately noticing the subtle transformations in our outdoor space. One of the trees had begun to bloom delicate white flowers, offering a living lesson in seasonal rhythms and the quiet miracles of early spring. Some of our arugula had grown tall and bolted, sparking conversations about plant life cycles, growth, and change. We welcomed the warmer weather with a joyful spring circle. The children especially delighted in our “Spring is Coming” song, gleefully jumping up each time we sang it.

A long-awaited moment finally arrived: harvesting the arugula we had planted weeks before. This experience beautifully illustrated the power of patience and meaningful work. We gathered around the garden bed and reflected on the entire journey-  from planting the tiny seeds in their pots, to building the garden bed together, collecting and mixing soil, transplanting the seedlings, caring for them daily, and finally enjoying the fruits of our labor. Such experiences cultivate patience, responsibility, and a deep sense of stewardship for the earth. Preparing the salad together extended the learning into practical life skills: the children grated cheddar cheese, carefully handled tools, and made individual choices about adding cherry tomatoes. Sharing the meal fostered gratitude, pride, and social connection, transforming nourishment into a communal celebration.

Our storytelling came alive as the students presented a beautiful play based on our tale of the bird with the broken wing, searching from tree to tree for shelter through the winter. Through dramatic play, the children deepened their comprehension, empathy, and expressive language skills. Each child embodied their role with sincerity, demonstrating growing confidence, cooperation, and imagination. This form of reenactment supports holistic development,  integrating emotional understanding, narrative sequencing, social collaboration, and creative expression.
