Kindergarten Chickadees: February 23-27, 2026
Osiyo, Chickadee Families,
Mother Nature gave the Chickadee class a wonderful experience of all she had to offer last week. The children started the week exploring ice, breaking it with sticks and shovels, scooping it into buckets, and carrying it around the forest classroom. Wednesday was filled with fort building and imaginative play involving baby animals and families. Students were able to enjoy a rainy day on Thursday as they splashed in puddles, collected rain in various vessels, created recipes with mud and pine straw in the mud kitchen, and found many worms. On Friday, students had the opportunity to use the fabric basket to sew or otherwise create their own handicrafts.
During the early spring morning circle, the Chickadees are working hard on new skills like skipping and moving with a partner, and reinforcing skills they have been practicing throughout the year, like crossing the front and back, left and right, and upper and lower midlines. One of their favorite verses includes frog hops at the end; ask them to show you the movements as you recite the words together!
Where are the froggies when the North Wind blows?
We cannot see them through the ice and snow
Deep, deep down in the mud they lie
Froggies are sleeping with tight closed eyes
But when the warm spring sun comes out
Froggies awaken and they jump about
