Kindergarten Turtles: March 2-5, 2026
Greetings, Turtle Families,
Our most recent story was about a postman who delivers mail in his friendly little town. He feels joy and pride as he brings happiness to everyone along his route. To extend our story, the children created “letters” to send home. Each student drew, wrote, cut, and glued to make a beautiful card. They helped address their envelopes, and some of the children even knew their home addresses! Each child carefully placed their card inside the envelope and sealed it. Many were surprised to learn they needed to lick the envelope to close it—some were delighted by this discovery, while others preferred to use glue instead. Finally, everyone added a stamp in the top right corner. Once the envelopes were ready, we took a walk to the mailbox, and each child had a turn placing their letter inside. The last child raised the red flag so the postman would know there was mail waiting. It will be so exciting when you open the mailbox at home to find these special envelopes inside!
Our classroom was still very wet after last week’s heavy rains, so the class enjoyed plenty of muddy play. Rain gear was required—even on dry days—since our space stays wet for quite a while after a storm. Students mixed red clay from the digging spot with water to create just the right muddy consistency. The children layered pine straw and mud into small woven baskets, carefully spreading the mud thinly and covering each layer with pine straw. Once they shaped a nice bowl, the creations were left in the sun to dry. Next week, after they have time to dry and harden, we will remove the baskets and have mud bowls ready to use. The children will chop apples, add bird seed and grains, and fill the bowls as a treat for the birds and small animals we share our class with.
We look forward to welcoming parents into the classroom this week to help with our auction project!
