Kindergarten Honeybees: March 2-5, 2026

Dear Honeybee Families,

Our week began with a joyful celebration as we gathered to honor our dear Emmett’s fifth birthday. In keeping with our birthday tradition, we shared stories from each year of his life, beginning with his arrival into the world and moving gently through the milestones of each passing year. The children listened with deep interest and reverence, delighting in hearing about Emmett’s journey. Afterward, they showered him with an abundance of heartfelt and playful birthday wishes.

We also introduced a new springtime story. The tale tells of a tiny ant who, caught in a sudden rainstorm, sought shelter beneath a small mushroom. Soon after, a butterfly with rain-soaked wings fluttered by and pleaded for refuge. Though the ant worried there was hardly enough space for even himself, he kindly made room. One by one, forest creatures arrived seeking shelter from the pouring rain- a mouse, a sparrow, and others, each certain there could not possibly be space beneath the mushroom. Yet somehow, with each new arrival, they managed to squeeze together and remain dry.

When the rain finally softened and the clouds parted, the warm sun peeked out once again. The animals stepped out from beneath the mushroom in wonder. How could they all have fit when there had barely been space for one? Just then, a bright green frog, perched atop the mushroom, burst into laughter. “Don’t you know what happens to mushrooms when it rains?” he chuckled, before hopping off merrily on his way. The children delighted in the gentle mystery and humor of the story.

We spent all of our time outdoors this week, taking several nature walks through the fields and pathways of our Forest. The children carried a small basket with them, carefully gathering seasonal treasures along the way. Among our finds were cheerful yellow daffodils, delicate violets, and bright dandelions scattered throughout the grass. At the pond, we paused quietly and were rewarded with the sight of turtles basking and a graceful heron standing watch along the water’s edge.

We also visited the animals at the farm, spending time observing their movements and tending to them with care. In our classroom garden, the children noticed exciting signs of new life emerging. Tiny new arugula leaves have begun pushing their way up through the stems, and the brussels sprout plants are now revealing small baby sprouts along the tall stalk. The children watched these changes with great delight and curiosity.
