Second & Thrid Grade: March 2-5, 2026

Hello Second and Third Grade Families,

Last week, we concluded our Fables Around the World block. The class enjoyed listening to stories from Haiti, Scotland, and Kenya and learning a little about each culture. Along with these stories, we spent time reviewing skills practiced throughout the year. In math, the students revisited addition and subtraction with and without regrouping, mixed multiplication and division, and fact families. In reading and writing, they reviewed sentence structure, the different types of sentences, parts of speech, spelling patterns, and punctuation. We will continue to revisit these skills for the remainder of the school year.

We also returned to our forest classroom and spent much of the previous week learning outdoors. The beautiful weather gave the class time to visit the creek, build forts, and enjoy two afternoons around the firepit. We plan to continue spending as much time outside as the weather allows. As we are spending extended time outside, please remember to send two water bottles, bug spray, a light jacket for cool mornings, and a change of clothing. The puddles are very tempting, so extra socks are especially helpful.

The class is now beginning a block on Sumerian and Akkadian stories and culture. The stories heard during this block frequently share similarities with the Hebrew stories that Third Graders heard last year.  We will begin our block with The Sumerian Creation Story and a painting activity. The class will complete a project during this block, and we will have a presentation day on April 3rd at 1:00 PM. Parents are welcome to join to watch the presentations.
