Middle School: March 2-5, 2026
Hello, Middle School Families,
This week, our class started the second History block of the year. Picking up where we left off in the fall, we started with a quick review of the seeds of the Revolutionary War. The class listened to the biography of John Locke, and his novel ideas in the 1600s about all being afforded the right to life, liberty, and property. A class discussion on rights followed, along with how they apply to our lives today, finally tying into the wording of the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution. Students are memorizing sections of these historical documents as part of morning recitation.
Once America had gained its independence, the question remained as to how the new nation was going to be governed. Students learned about the first attempt at establishing a government with the Articles of Confederation, which led to the Constitutional Convention. From that meeting came the US Constitution.
Students dissected the various parts of the Constitution and learned about the establishment of the three branches of government. The class also dove into the process of how a bill becomes a law. Dividing into two groups, the class pretended to be from the Senate and the House of Representatives, then split into committees to propose and write their own “bills” for a mock simulation of the process, which the class will participate in next week.
Finally, we celebrated Major’s birthday! Happy birthday, Major!
