Kindergarten Turtles: March 9 - 13, 2026

Greetings, Turtle Families,

It was so nice to meet with you all for conferences. It is truly a pleasure to spend our days with your children in our beautiful forest classroom, and it was wonderful to share with you what they are doing and learning at school.

Thank you to the Turtle families who came to help in the classroom with our auction project. It is coming along beautifully! The children enjoyed selecting their colors and had fun applying the glaze to their bisque clay pieces with the help of our parent volunteers. Our wall hanging will be a lovely collaborative art piece. We appreciate the time you have given to support this project and look forward to seeing the finished result.

Last week, we planted freesia bulbs in class. In the coming weeks, we will water and care for them as we watch for signs of growth. When they begin to sprout, we will send them home. Our early spring circle includes many songs and verses about the changes we see in nature during this season. One of our verses, Brown Bulb, inspired our planting.

Brown Bulb

A little brown bulb went to sleep in the ground
In his/her little brown clothes
He/she slept very sound.
King Winter roared and raged overhead,
But the little brown bulb never lifted his/her head.

There he/she slept the winter through,
So very quiet, like me and you.

Lady Spring came tiptoeing over the leaves,
With finger to mouth as quiet as can be.
Little brown bulb, he/she shook in his/her bed,
He/she tossed off his/her covers and lifted his/her head.

He/she grew and he/she grew
Up toward the sun,
And opened his/her spring cl
othes
And danced and had fun.

During this verse, the student who is our line leader for the day goes to the middle of the circle to be the “brown bulb.” The child acts out the verse as we recite it together.

We have welcomed many prospective students to our classroom over the past several weeks, and we will continue to have visitors for many weeks to come. It has been lovely to see the Turtles welcome these students so warmly. Throughout the year, they have practiced being kind and helpful with one another, and it is beautiful to see them extend that same kindness and care to new friends.

On Tuesday, we celebrated Brennen’s 5th birthday. His parents and little brother joined us to share stories and memories from his life. His parents, teachers, and classmates all shared wishes for the coming year. Happy Birthday, Brennen!
