Kindergarten Chickadees: March 9 - 13, 2026

Osiyo, Chickadee Families,

Thank you for attending conferences last week!  It is an incredible privilege to partner with you in your child’s education and to have the opportunity to discuss the amazing people they are.

Last week, the Chickadee class had the incredible opportunity to see a few baby turtles that hatched on campus! The Golden Knights were able to accompany Ki Heidi to release them to a safe place. Being able to experience nature in this way opens children to the wonders of the natural world, inspiring scientific curiosity and care and respect for the environment. The children also spent a lot of time sculpting with mud, returning to their sculptures throughout the week to add elements like sticks and pine straw. The students experimented with different consistencies and shapes as they worked. Much fun was had building and navigating obstacle courses throughout the forest classroom. The students used boards and logs to create paths to walk across and balance on, challenging their gross motor skills.

The Chickadees heard the story of The Little Red Hen. They will now take turns playing the parts of the hen, the cow, the horse, and the cat as we re-enact the story in a play every day this week. The students will use a mortar and pestle to grind oats into flour like the miller in the story, and on Wednesday, they will enjoy homemade bread with vegan butter as a special treat, just like the little red hen! Next, the children will begin hearing a seasonal story about the Anglo-Saxon goddess Eostre and the magical bunny.
