Fourth & Fifth Grade: March 9 - 13, 2026
Dear Fourth and Fifth Grade Families,
It was a pleasure meeting with you all last week. Thank you for taking the time to come in and discuss your child’s progress. It has been a pleasure to share how your child has grown compared to last semester, and it’s great to know that you have noticed many of the same changes at home as well!
The class is in the second week of Decimal Fractions. Building on the previous week, we worked on adding and subtracting decimals. The concept was initially viewed as rather simple to the majority of the class because it follows many of the same rules they have learned, only now with a decimal point. We continued to work on expanded notation, how decimals are used in our currency as well as currencies from around the world, and learning the most commonly used decimals are ¼ , ½, and ¾ in fraction form.
Since we’re a little over a month away from the Greek Pentathlon, the students will be working on the more technical events for the event, like the javelin, discus, and long jump. For the throws, the students have been working on throwing with more precision. In the long jump, the students measured their individual run-up as a way to learn how to run their approaches more consistently and get a better take-off in order to maximize their jumps into the sandpit. This practice helped the students jump their average distance more consistently. Everyone felt proud of their new accomplishments!
During the language arts period, the students completed reading their Tristan Strong novels. The class compared their final predictions to the actual story ending. We reflected on the overall story and reminisced on the students’ favorite moments. The class began drafting their essays for their book reports. Next week, they will complete their final copy and complete a detailed illustration to match.
