Kindergarten Honeybees: August 31-September 4, 2026
Dear Honeybee Families,
Thank you for joining us for Curriculum Night. Taking the time to understand and discuss why we do what we do is such an important part of our shared educational journey. It was wonderful to see so many parents engaging with and showing care for their child’s experience at school. Thank you for your presence and partnership.
This past week was full of joy, imagination, and adventure. The Honeybees brought our story of the mushroom and the ant to life through a puppet show and play. It was truly delightful to hear the children say their lines and watch them embody the story. It is a beautiful thing to see how deeply the students have absorbed the story and then witness it unfold through their play in such a sweet and joyful way.
We also welcomed a new friend to our class- welcome, Phoebe! She seamlessly joined our group and was warmly welcomed by the other children. We are so happy to have her with us.
The class has been showing a growing interest in handwork and has been eagerly requesting yarn each day to make finger chains and beaded necklaces. Some of our older students have naturally taken on the role of helping those who are new to finger chaining. It has been delightful to witness their patience, collaboration, and willingness to support one another. One of the most notable things we have observed in our class this year is the genuine care the children show toward one another. This sense of kindness, cooperation, and community is part of the culture we work to cultivate in our class, and it is beautiful to see how naturally it is beginning to emerge among the children.
Imaginative play has also been flourishing outdoors. A group of students worked together to create a campsite. Students eagerly picked up their rakes to clear the site, rolled a mat to make a tent, and built a bonfire. All that was missing were the marshmallows!
A Request for Natural Dyeing
Later in September, our class will be naturally dyeing cloth. For this work, we are gathering flowers and would be grateful for your help.
If you have marigolds you are able to share, we would love to have them—just the flower heads, please. We are also collecting goldenrod, the beautiful yellow wildflower that can often be found growing along roadsides and trails.
If you are able to gather either marigold flower heads or goldenrod, please send them in with your child by September 15th.
Class Reminders and Announcements:
Parent Conferences are October 8 and 9! Please sign up here to schedule a time to meet.
Conferences are for adults only and are an opportunity to come together to talk about your child’s experiences at school, celebrate their growth, and share any questions, observations, or concerns.
September 9: Grade Curriculum Meeting, 6:00 pm. (adults only)
September 12: Community Workday
September 18: Day of Courage (half-day)
September 21 - 25: Fall Break
September 28: Teacher In-Service (No School)
