Kindergarten Dragonflies: August 31-September 4, 2026
Dear Dragonfly Families,
Thank you for attending our Curriculum Night! It’s always lovely to see and connect with you all.
Another wonderful week in the forest has come and gone, and the children have continued to settle into the rhythm of our days while creating new and innovative ways to interact with one another and the world around them. Music filled our forest classroom this week as a majority of the class used the mud kitchen toys as drums with small sticks, creating lively beats and rhythms. On Monday, we journeyed to the farm and visited the goats, Caramel and Marshmallow, and the donkeys, Frieda and Pacem, and fed them a bit of the kudzu that grows around our campus. On Thursday, we were lucky enough to return to the creek and enjoy creekcess. Our typical creek days this year will be held on Mondays and Fridays, and although creekcess is beloved by the children, we do not attend the creek 24 hours after a rain. Because of this, there are times when creekcess will happen on different days, but we will always journey there after snack time in the mornings and return with enough time to change clothes before half-day pickup. Remember to always check your child’s backpack for wet clothes! On Thursday, we celebrated Igor’s fourth birthday with his family. Happy Birthday, Igor!
This week, the Dragonflies continued our storytelling rhythm for the school year. Stories in Waldorf kindergarten are told in two-week segments, allowing the children to fully engage with the story as well as revel in the predictability. Week one, the teacher simply tells the story, relying on the child’s own imagination to bring the story to life within themselves. During the second week, puppet shows are performed by the teacher using handmade puppets and silks. The children then act out the story themselves all together; while having fun, they’re connecting even further with the story and boosting their comprehension. This two week routine will repeat throughout the school year as we continue with seasonally appropriate stories.
This Saturday, September 12th, is a Community Workday sponsored by our class. Workdays are a chance for members of our community to come together, gain volunteer hours, and help maintain the beauty of our campus. Children are welcome to attend Community Work Days; however, they must remain under the direct supervision of their parent or guardian at all times. If tools or supplies are needed, there will be a posting on our All School page in the OneSpot app. I hope to see you all there!

Conferences are for adults only and are an opportunity to come together to talk about your child’s experiences at school, celebrate their growth, and share any questions, observations, or concerns.
