Kindergarten Honeybees: September 7-11, 2026
Dear Honeybee Families,
This past week, we shared a new story about an apple tree that yearned to touch the stars. The little tree grew and grew into a great tree, but the stars remained out of reach. A Star Fairy promised to bring the tree a star, but by the time she returned, the tree was filled with beautiful apples and had forgotten all about the stars. The Fairy then placed a tiny star inside every apple, explaining why, when we cut an apple open, we find a beautiful star hidden within. Later on, we will cut open an apple together and discover the star carved out by the apple seeds for ourselves.
In handwork, the children created yarn pom-poms. The students chose their own yarn colors, wrapped the yarn around a piece of cardboard, and tied a knot in the middle. Then came the magical part: cutting the loops and watching their pom-poms take shape! Our first play of the year brought such joy and success that the children were inspired to recreate it independently. The students covered the dome with silks and fabrics to transform it into a mushroom and joyfully assigned roles to one another. It was wonderful to watch them initiate their own play, share ideas, and work collaboratively to bring their vision to life.
The Honeybees made an exciting discovery at the creek: pockets of clay hidden in certain areas. The children delighted in smearing the cool clay onto their hands and arms and exploring its texture. The class is savoring these creek days while they last, as we are already beginning to notice the first signs of fall with cooler mornings and leaves beginning to gather on the forest floor.
Class Reminders and Announcements:
A Request for Natural Dyeing: Our class will be naturally dyeing cloth. For this work, we are gathering flowers and would be grateful for your help.
If you have marigolds you are able to share, we would love to have them; just the flower heads, please. We are also collecting goldenrod, the beautiful yellow wildflower that can often be found growing along roadsides and trails.
If you are able to gather either marigold flower heads or goldenrod, please send them in with your child by September 16th.
Roots & Rhythms: We are excited to welcome Mari Cooper to our community! Throughout this school year, she will be leading an eight-session parent education series. With extensive experience in Waldorf education, Mari will invite participants to explore the “why” behind what we do through music, movement, and meaningful discussion. These sessions are a wonderful opportunity to learn more about the roots of our curriculum while connecting with other parents in our community.
Participation is expected for all new parents, and all parents are encouraged to join! as part of our commitment to building a shared understanding of the philosophy and practices that guide our school. We look forward to supporting you on this beautiful journey of parenting!
