Sixth Grade: September 18-22, 2023

Dear Sixth Grade Families,

This past week, our class concluded our first block on Ancient Rome. We learned about various Roman technologies:  the Roman arch, roadways, buildings such as the Pantheon, and aqueducts. Romans admired many cultures around them, and while these technologies did not originate with them, the improvements made influence us today.  Around these lessons, we heard the story of Marius, a plebian consul, and his rise and fall from power. When we return to Rome later this semester, we will hear stories of the various Caesars that ruled the Roman empire while at her strength and, later, her downfall.

The Day of Courage was again a lovely time for the Second Grade class. In addition to sanding and polishing the wooden swords they “find” in the forest, each student in second grade receives a handmade gift from students in another class to help them ready themselves to meet the metaphorical dragon within the cave. This year, our class made wooden medallions covered with “dragon” scales to protect these good-hearted warriors. Sharing this magical experience is encouraging for all students and teachers as we look toward the changing seasons.
