Kindergarten Turtles: April 29 - May 3, 2024

Greetings Turtle Families,

We have had an exciting couple of weeks in the forest. A Barred Owl visited our classroom twice.  It was sitting in the treetops, watching us.  The owl flew to a couple of places, and then off it went across the creek. The second time, the owl even talked to us.  It was an amazing experience for the Turtles to finally see the owl we have heard hoot hooting all year.

On Monday, the class went on a walk and saw the geese and their goslings. We only saw them for a few minutes before they scooted into some tall weeds to hide.  Ki Virginia pointed out that they walk, as we do, through the forest with an adult in front, goslings in between, and an adult bringing up the rear.  Ki Holly found a snakeskin that had been shed (possibly from a black rat snake), and the children each got to look at it and touch it.  We found a bullfrog tadpole in the creek, and the children saw it swimming about.  While at the creek, we saw two snakes further down the creek swim from one bank to the other. Another day at the creek, we watched the geese and goslings swim down the creek from us.   We are so fortunate to experience nature the way we do in our beautiful forest.

On Tuesday, we celebrated Leo’s 6th birthday. Leo’s Mom, Dad, and sister visited our class to celebrate with us.

On Friday, we celebrated Paloma’s 6th birthday.  Paloma’s Mom and Dad visited our class to celebrate with us.

Happy Birthday, Leo and Paloma!

It is hard to believe that the school year is ending. We have some special activities planned for next week, the last week of school.

  • During the final week of school, we will NOT have our usual shared snack (no veggies or apples are needed). Please be sure to send your child with a snack from home each day.

  • Students will need creek shoes and a change of clothes every day, as we will play at the creek as often as we are able.

  • Monday and Tuesday, 5/13 and 14, students are invited to bring a favorite stuffed animal from home. Stuffed animals should easily fit in backpacks and be OK to get dirtyAlso, on Monday and Tuesday, we will chop Strawberries to be used in our Sorbet later in the week. Please see the email from Crystal Thomas to sign up to donate strawberries.

  • Wednesday, 5/15, is FIELD DAY! Students who do not attend school on Wednesdays are welcome to join us from morning drop-off until 12:30 pm, our half-day pick-up. On field day, we will participate in outdoor games and activities as a class, visit the creek, and enjoy Outshine popsicles provided by the school.  Kindergarten will be dismissed at half day this day.

  • Thursday and Friday, 5/16 and 17, we will share Strawberry Sorbet along with our snack from home. Sorbet ingredients will be strawberries (donated by class parents), agave syrup, and filtered water.

We are looking forward to a week of special activities before we say goodbye for the summer.
