Fourth Grade: October 18 - 22

Dear Fourth Grade Families,

It was so enjoyable meeting with each of you during our Parent-Teacher conferences this past week and sharing about your children.  On Friday, parents and students gathered and created our Odin scarecrow which turned out looking great!  Thank you for your ongoing support of our class and The Garden School!

This past week we ended a math block with a look at long division using story problems.  We divided large amounts of (Monopoly) money between groups of friends and recorded on the chalkboard the various ways we could divide it evenly.  It was a fun way to find that while we could share out the bills in a variety of ways, the end amount that each student collected was always the same.  We will continue to practice larger number multiplication and short division for the remainder of the semester as well as continuing to focus on weekly target numbers for our multiplication tables.

This week we are beginning our Local Geography block.  As we begin to look at maps, the students will start with a view of themselves and move outward, viewing and mapping their desk, classroom, and school campus. An additional activity (aka: homework) will be to create a colorful map of their room with a simple key to be shared in class.  More information will be coming home with your child regarding this fun project as well as an additional project the following week.

Reminders:

  • Please help your child complete their spelling work and studying at home over the weekends and bring their supplies back to school on Mondays.

  • Send your child in layers for warmth.  Blankets at school will come home on Fridays for washing as needed.

  • Please note: We do not wear costumes to school for Halloween. We will have some Halloween-related class activities on Friday.

With gratitude,

Melissa
