Dear Second-Grade Families,
During the last week of the first semester, the second grade continued working on place value with the help of glass gems. The students enjoyed having handwork with Ki Leah and Ki Ieva twice this week. On Thursday, the whole class worked quietly for an hour on their knitting projects. It was quiet in class, as each student concentrated on their work, and Ki Ieva praised everybody for their dedication and the quality of their work.
In the holiday spirit, the class celebrated Saint Lucia on Monday with Lussekatter (Swedish saffron buns), a breakfast staple in Swedish households on Saint Lucia’s Day, a festival of light, preceding the winter solstice and Christmas. On Thursday, the class celebrated the last day of school in their cozy pajamas with homemade hot chocolate, peppermint candy canes, and cookies. Thank you to all the parents who send in hot cocoa, marshmallows, chocolate chip cookies, Serinakaker (Norwegian shortbread cookies), plates, cups, and napkins! At the end of the school day, the students exchanged their Secret-Santa socks through a random lottery. They were happy about the socks they received, and they all took off their shoes and tried them on. The class had so much fun that we almost missed pick-up time!
Reminders:
Take deep breaths and enjoy the holidays! The students deserve time with family to be themselves without pressure and academic work.
Stay healthy!
We will see you again on Wednesday, January 5, 2022.
Thank you for your continued support and your kind holiday gifts. I am thankful for every student in my class, and I look forward to seeing you again in January.
Happy Holidays and Happy New Year,
Gaby Farrokhi
