Dear Second-Grade Families,
The class has been reading The Gingerbread Boy, a story from our new second-grade reader. The students first read alone or with a partner before reading aloud together. Reading this way works well, and the students often can figure out how to read complicated words on their own. We proceed through the story at a pace that enables all students to participate in the group reading process. The story of the Gingerbread Boy will be illustrated by the students and bound into a little booklet. In Cursive Handwriting, we have added more letters, and the students are getting excited about joining the letters. In our daily math practice, the students looked at multiples of 8, 9. and 10.
During Environmental education with Ki Rachel, the class looked for fossils and documented their findings on paper. In Handwork and Crafts with Ki Ieva, the students made friendship bracelets and learned to braid. On Wednesday, the class played their new recorders for the first time. They did surprisingly well and played with Ki Kathee, who showed them three different notes.
Reminders:
Bring boots for environmental education and farm to protect the students’ regular shoes and prevent wet socks and cold feet.
