Second Grade: January 24 - 28

Dear Second-Grade Parents,

This week, the second-grade students finished illustrating the story of The Gingerbread Boy. They spent the whole week reading the story and drawing illustrations. The students were adamant about first reading each page by themselves before the class read it together. Each day it became easier to decode words. The reading speed also improved. After reading individual pages, the students were able to read the whole story at the end of the week. In the end, I asked the students how the story might continue, and each student created an additional illustration for the continuation. Now, we will bind the individual readers.

On Thursday, our students had their last lesson with our Movement teacher, Ki Shannon. Ki Shannon is leaving the school to work in a special education classroom at a different school. The whole class has become very fond of Ki Shannon, and the students each made her a card to say goodbye and wish her well.
